Teach Your Children - Water Confidence

Water Confidence Program – Timid / Water Phobia Beginner

To become happy and confident in the water, non-swimmer needs to be in control. For a beginner to truly be in control they require shallow water. This means utilizing ledges, ramps, steps, even children’s play pools. It is silly to rush the process and expect non swimmer to be comfortable in deep water straight away.

1) Bring Water Toward the student
  • Cup conditioning
    • Sit on the pool deck
    • Get a cup or mask
    • Wash both leg
    • Wash both hand
    • Wash both shoulder
    • Wash hair
    • Wash forehead
  • Blow Bubble – Mouth
    • Stand at the shallow pool/ sit on the pool deck (no shallow pool)
    • Bring the water up
    • Hold the Breath. Close the mouth and mouth level touch water for 1s, 3s, 5s
    • Close the mouth, mouth level touch water and start blow bubble for 1s, 3s, 5s
    • Move the cup near to the water and blow bubble
  • Blow Bubble – Nose
    • Stand at the shallow pool/ sit on the pool deck (no shallow pool)
    • Bring the water up
    • Hold the Breath. Close the mouth and nose level touch water for 1s, 3s, 5s
    • Close the mouth and nose touch water and start blow bubble for 1s, 3s, 5s
    • Move the cup near to the water and blow bubble
2) Stand at the shallow pool
  • Scoop the water and wash face
  • Get a cup or mask to pour water from top of their forehead and blow the water with confident
  • Hold the Breath. Face in water to hairline for 1s, 3s, 5s
  • Face in water to hairline & exhale for 1s, 3s, 5s
3) Hold to the pool wall
  • Squat down and fully submerge the head & exhale for 5s
  • Repeat step (a) with a minimum of 5 times rhythmically
4) Move into a stretched floating position with aids, equipment or support. Sit and push or push from the wall.

5) Regain an upright position from on the back with support. Tuck legs in order to stand and scoop the water from back to front (with noddle)

6) Regain an upright position from on the front with support. Tuck legs in order to stand and pull the water from front to back (with noddle)

7) Push & glide in a horizontal position to or from a wall with or without support.
  • Straight arms – arms behind ears, like an arrow position
  • Legs straight – toe pointed
  • Streamline position
