How to get kids to exercise?

1. Get the kids involved!
It is important to have kids engaged in the process. Have them take responsibility for what type of exercise they want to do! Give your kids some options and have them pick the activity.

2. Encourage safe outdoor activity.
When physical distancing is possible, encourage your children to go outside! Walking the dog, playing catch, riding bikes around the neighbourhood, and throwing frisbees are some great activities to choose from. Worried that your neighbourhood is too crowded? Jumping on a trampoline, playing hopscotch and jump rope can be done in your own yard!

3. Change it up!
Whether it is going on a new hiking trail or simply taking a different biking route, adding variety is a good way to maintain physical activity engagement.

4. Take advantage of FREE online workouts.
If you don’t have access to open outdoor spaces, there are many free online activities geared toward children. From virtual PE classes to yoga and partner workouts for parents and kids to do together, there are many ways to stay active, even when indoors.

5. Exercise as a family.
Make physical activity part of your family’s daily routine by taking family walks, playing active games together, or having family dance parties. Children are more likely to participate if the entire family is engaged.

6. Set the example.
Walk the walk! Kids are more likely to engage in physical activity when they see that you are active. Plus, the exercise will likely benefit you too!

Thanks for sharing!
It's not easy to get kids out of their Netflix and computer games these days.

I think outdoor activities are great for kids...walk in the park, cycling anything outdoors.

Kids rarely exercise but they do have fun and play.
Any opportunity as a family or a group friends to play is exercise itself.
Take ordinary tasks and let them be opportunities for exercise.
E.g. Hand washing clothes, walking part of the way home from shopping before taking a taxi or getting a bus, taking the staircase for part of the distance before taking elevator or escalator, dishwashing, cooking, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, putting away the trash and regular cleaning of home.
It's important that as parents you role model being active therefore let your children see you being active and positive with these tasks and you will have greater chances of physical activity with your children.
