Yes I believe they would. However have to guide them along their growing too. Without guiding and teaching, it definitely goes wrong. And also the companies they are mixing with.

As a former teacher and having worked with interns ranging from High school to University there is a core personality that exists and over time layers of experience and skills that developed through both positive and negative interactions results in specific types of changes. For example a shy child with specific experiences can develop into an arrogant and narcissistic person. However with the right guidance it's possible for them to change to a more positive and productive personality.
I know of very selfish children that were never disciplined respond to a strong mentor to become a kind and collaborative personality. Their core selfish nature still exists but they have matured to reason that it is not a effective way to move forward in life.
Parents are the 1st and last mentors in a child's life.
However life is often far too challenging and diverse for parents to be available to mentor your child in the different age groups and spectrum of environments they will encounter.
Encourage your child to select different mentors appropriate to their needs or at the very least navigate through the multitude of obstacles and concerns in their life. Outside of Parents- your child has a choice of mentors.
